Criminal Justice Joint Inspection (CJJI)
CJJI is a product of long-standing cooperation between the four criminal justice inspectorates (of Constabulary; the Crown Prosecution Service; Prisons; and Probation) which was formalised by the Police and Justice Act 2006.
We work together to address issues that involve more than one criminal justice agency and have a direct impact on the public who use the justice system. Working together produces a more rounded examination of issues that cut across the system and enables us to achieve more than if just one inspectorate acted alone.
His Majesty’s Crown Prosecution Service Inspectorate (HMCPSI)
Providing independently assessed evidence to help drive improvement and build public confidence in the prosecution process.
His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS)
Independently assessing the effectiveness and efficiency of police forces and fire & rescue services – in the public interest.
HM Inspectorate of Prisons for England and Wales (HMI Prisons)
Providing independent scrutiny of the conditions for and treatment of prisoners and other detainees.
HM Inspectorate of Probation
Promoting excellence in probation and youth offending services across England and Wales.
